John Hoppner, RA (1758-1810)

John Hoppner was one of the leading portrait painters of the Regency period. Born in London, he was educated and served as a chorister in the Royal Chapel. In 1775, with an allowance from George III, he entered the Royal Academy Schools. He was made Portrait Painter to the Prince of Wales in 1793 and two years later was elected to the Royal Academy.
