John de Critz (before 1552-1642)

John de Critz was brought to London by his Flemish parents as a child, where he was apprenticed to Lucas de Heere, a painter and poet form his native city of Antwerp. By the late 1590s, de Critz was well established in England, and from 1605 until his death he served as Serjeant Painter to the King.
