The Berger Collection traveling exhibition, Treasure of British Art 1400 – 2000: The Berger Collection, presents 50 masterworks from this preeminent private collection of British art. Featured are examples by the most important artists of the British School: Hans Holbein the Younger, Anthony van Dyck, Peter Lely, Benjamin West, Angelica Kauffman, Thomas Gainsborough, Thomas Lawrence, George Stubbs, John Singer Sargent, Howard Hodgkin, and Adam Birtwistle.
The exhibition began its tour at the Portland Museum of Art in Maine in fall 2014, then traveled to the Dixon Gallery & Gardens in Memphis Tennessee, and the Brigham Young University Museum of Art in Provo, Utah. It opens at the Taft Museum of Art in Cincinnati, Ohio, on June 10, 2017, and will be on view until October 1, 2017.
The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue written by Berger Collection curator Kathleen Stuart. Each painting is discussed in a brief, thoughtful essay and accompanied by a large color plate. The catalogue is available online at The Shop at the Denver Art Museum.
