Edward Collier (ca. 1640-ca. 1710)

Edward Collier was born in Breda in the Netherlands, but may have been of English descent. He worked in the Netherlands until 1693, when he moved to London, remaining there until 1706. Collier specialized in vanitas pictures, still life paintings of a collection of objects chosen and arranged to remind the viewer of the transience and uncertainty of life.
